Pl list out activities men can do them selves--cooking/washing clothes/shaving?

do it yourself -and find the joy.Pl list out activities men can do them selves--cooking/washing clothes/shaving?
men can do all household activities by themselves if they wish to .Only thing is desire which is often lacking.

cooking/laundry/sweeping/scrubbing/dec鈥?not ? just try.Pl list out activities men can do them selves--cooking/washing clothes/shaving?
ha! another one who feels useless. well if men try they can do everything - except have a baby and breast feed them...
Anything but having sex with a female
They can do anything they are physically fit to do...provided they want to. I figure if they don't try it, how do they know if they can or can not. So everything.
Mopping floors, laundry, washing dishes, vacuuming and dusting, claning the silverware, loading the dishwasher and unloading, cleaning windows, cleaning the tub. My guy does waay more than this :-)
I do everything except making love with myself....what is your problem
I'm not sure where this is going, but I AM the cook, and have laways been the cook, for the 25 years that my household has existed. I am a male. I am now aslo a widower, so guess what? I do laundry, take out garbage, groom animals, change beds, and all the rest.

What's your point?
I can do:

- Shower / Take a bath

- Cook like a chef

- Wash / Dry Laundry

- Shave / Toothbrush

- Repair minor leaks and automotive problems

- Operate the T.V., DVD, Computer, and other electronic gadgets

- Babysit kids

- Paint the house (but not decorate - I leave that to my gf) =)

- Solve quite complex chemistry and mathematical problems

- Vacuum and scrub the house (every 3 weeks)

- Play sports

- And so on....

Do I qualify then? =)

Where's my prize.... =)
I don't think men can do their work by themselves...

I don't see any guys doing their work...
Ive been doing everything for myself for 50 years lol

  • Is it possible to wash dirty clothes in Fallout 3?

I have Boxes of Detergent and Abraxo Cleaner. I even have the dirty clothes to go with em. Such as ';Dirty Pre-War Parkstroller Outfit.

So it would seem that you can wash clothes. Has anyone found out either way?Is it possible to wash dirty clothes in Fallout 3?
the miscellaneous items are not for washing clothes, but for making unique weapons. Is it possible to wash dirty clothes in Fallout 3?
LOL- that's true!! There's TONS of detergent laying around!

I've never found a way to wash clothes yet- if we even can!

Maybe if you take the detergent and clothes to the waters edge? I don't know though... some of that water is nasty brown... LOL! Or maybe there's a washing machine somewhere?

I LOVE this game btw!!! :D
Haven't found a way to wash clothes.. wouldn't recommend cleaning them in radioactive water though.. :-)

What are some good places I can wash my clothes as a homeless person? Also what are some tips for staying ?

clean? Most homeless I see look really weathered and dirty, I am just starting out being homeles but want to try and stay clean and healthy and well kept. What are some good places I can wash my clothes as a homeless person? Also what are some tips for staying ?
i will pray for you. What are some good places I can wash my clothes as a homeless person? Also what are some tips for staying ?
That's a good question; I guess my first thought would be to try shelters. If you're a teenager there are shelters out there just for teens. Otherwise the only other thing I can think of is a laundromat.
If you live by a public beach in California they usually have bathrooms and showers you can use.

What is a good detergent & softener to wash baby clothes in?

I'm not due until September but I want to wash the clothes now. Is there a certain type of laundry detergent and fabric softener I should use? Some of the fabrics are a bit rough feeling and I want to soften them. Thanks!!What is a good detergent %26amp; softener to wash baby clothes in?
you can use fabric softener on things that aren't flame retardant; any detergent with no frag and no dyes should be fine....after a few months, try washing one of babies shirts or onesies with your reg detergent and if there is no reaction you can use your reg detergent; usually after babies get a little age on them they aren't quite as sensitive....and if you have a baby that is very sensitive , you may want to wash your shirts and such, things that will be in contact with baby frequently in his/her wash so there is no reaction..hthWhat is a good detergent %26amp; softener to wash baby clothes in?
I use ';Attitude'; laundry detergent. It's eco-friendly. Technically it's drinkable, though I wouldn't recommend it. No dyes, no chemicals. Cleans clothes great and won't bother baby's skin.

As for fabric softener, I';d skip it. Fabric softener has lots of chemicals and perfumes in it which can bother babies skin, as well, it builds up on the fabrics and on your dryer lint screen which can be a fire hazard. Get those dryer balls that fluff up clothes without the toxic fabric softener. Or buy organic or bamboo clothing which is so soft naturally.

In my opinion, you're better to clothe baby in ';rough'; feeling clothes than in clothes that have been dried with toxic chemicals.
We don't have baby all where I live (Hawaii), and if we do I've never noticed it. I use all natural laundry detergent Seventh Generation for my whole family from Target. I get the 150 fl.oz. bottle that costs $20.99 +tax, which lasts me 2-3 weeks. Which is amazing because my husband always puts in way to much, triple the amount! He's so used to the regular detergents, now there's 2x concentrate and he still puts in double, even triple the amount of cupfuls! It doesn't matter how many times I explain to him he still does it his way! I also by it because my son has baby eczema and I tried deft and it still made him break out! This detergent works good for my baby, the only way he breaks out is from other sources (people holding him,etc.). Good luck!
I LOVE Baby ALL. The dreft was nice, but WAY too expensive.

You shouldn't use any additional softeners until your baby is a little older %26amp; you can see a reaction. When infants are newly born, they can often have mottled skin or small red areas of breakouts anyway, and you might not be able to tell the difference between normal spots %26amp; allergic reactions.

Baby ALL is really good with biological stuff like milk %26amp; poop. I used to wash a lot of my own stuff in the baby ALL (and I could afford to do it b/c of the price difference between ALL %26amp; Dreft)...so that I could get out spit up %26amp; milk (from breastfeeding).

I continued to use dryer sheets to get rid of static cling...but no softener, and I used whatever brand had a dye free, perfume free sheet.
just use your regular detergent and rinse the clothes twice. Skip the fabric softener for the first month or so because it is more likely to cause a rash since it stays on the clothes. Make sure you wash new clothes before your baby wears them because new cloth is treated with a starch so it stays wrinkle free and looking nice on the rack.
We use Dreft. But my Mom is the coordinator (boss) at a hospital for the laundry department and she said that you can use any type of laundry detergent safely as long as you send them through the rinse cycle twice.
at my shower we got a bunch of dreft but it doesn't smell very good in my opinion. i used Baby All and liked it much better plus it is less expensive.
Good lord, don't buy Dreft. It's way overpriced, and it's not even unscented. Just about every brand sells a perfume-free detergent.
Dreft, Baby ALL or the Target brand of baby detergent also works good. All these are gentle for baby's clothes
Dreft or Tide free has worked for us...just make sure it's free of perfumes and dyes and whatnot....

Oh and I wouldn't use fabric softner...I agree...
We use All Free and Clear and I believe the dryer sheets are Bounce unscented.

Have you ever washed unworn clothes and had them come out of the drier stained?

I just washed some unworn clothes for a new job and they have come out with dark stains on them. I tried some stain remover and it didn't seem to do much. Anyone had similar experiences? are my clothes treatable? Thanks!Have you ever washed unworn clothes and had them come out of the drier stained?
i hate to say it but i dont think your clothes can be fixed it sounds like an oil stain from the dryer, this usually happens with older dryers it happened to my mum. u need to upgrade ur dryer everything will have oil stains on it from now onHave you ever washed unworn clothes and had them come out of the drier stained?
    no

How do I wash my clothes so they get softer?

When I wash my clothes they don't feel so soft as before. Is there a way to make them softer, especially flannel and baby clothes? Should I wash with cold water, or delicate cycle, or use a special soap or product? I have a very good washer (Bosch front loader). How do I wash my clothes so they get softer?
I use liquid and sheet fabric softener.

My friends call me the Laundry Queen. My clothes are awsome! Gain detergent (original scent) and Snuggle ';Blue Sparkle'; fabric softener. How do I wash my clothes so they get softer?
fabric softener, like Downy or Snuggles, dryer sheets, and use a mild detergent.
    liquid fabric softener
A little bit of fabric softener. I love the new Downy with Fabreze. Don't use it on towels or too much on the baby clothes because it affect absorbency. I love the dryer balls you can buy at Target or Rite Aid. They are in the aisle or end cap marked ';As seen on TV.'; They cost about $10, but I just love them.
Try using a fabric softener, like Downy, in your wash.

How do I nicely tell my friend to quit washing clothes?

I allowed a friend of mine to stay at my house while she gets her self settled. She has been here for two weeks and she has washed E V E R Y day. my husband has even noticed. she washed our clothes, her clothes, clothes ALREADY washed TWICE, towels that we just showered with. Ive already mentioned to her that i will wash my own clothes and that i am greatful however my water, gas and electric bill are going to be sky high. She is washing again right now, my husband is p'd off at me cause i wont say anything. i need ideas, for if i say anything i dont need her to get all offended. How do I nicely tell my friend to quit washing clothes?
tell her you are embracing a greener life style and that wash day is Monday. She may leave and take her OCD with her but what the heck. How do I nicely tell my friend to quit washing clothes?
just say please stop washing clothes all the time =) your running up my water, and electricity bill, and gas bill I know maybe your trying to be helpful but instead maybe you can wahs the dishes after dinner or vacuum the living room? but just don't wash clothes if that fails just say ok the truth is I love washing clothes I mean LOVE it and your taking one of my greatest joys away so please don't wash anymore clothes because i want to do it lol
Try to talk to her, I had a lot of friends staying at my house and I always let them know what days are ';washing days';. I once had to told my mo that we were on a drought so we were getting charged extra for water. That actually helped.

Tell her right now..the longer you wait the higher the bills are going to get :)
    just tell her

can u take it easy on the washing?

not to be rude but u wash our clotes a lot

and if u wash them to much our water/gas bill

is gonna be really high so please take it easy on that a little

    please?
there's NO need for somebody to wash their clothes alot every single day.

tell her if she doesn't limiting washing her clothes everyday she's gonna have to help pay for the bills.
Well say nothing, if she's leaving soon, be grateful that she leaves.
turn off he breaker tell er you only do wash on tues and fri.
It's your house. Just tell her!
make your husband have sex with her
ummmmm how can i put dis nicly KICK HER OUT WIT ALL HER CLOTHES!!!!!
jus say u know look girl im lettin u live her e but we can washed our own close i jus dont want 2 put 2 much on u
once shes finished doing your laundry ...throw her the f... out!!!!
You probably did not know this but your friend sounds like she has (I am not a M.D.) an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. You spoke to her and she's still doing it. It's an illness. You cannot help her. Give her a deadline to leave and stick to it. I hope she is under a doctor's care. You are not being cruel but neither are you or your husband qualified to deal with this young lady's mental health.

It's nice to be nice as my mom always said but just do not invite someone into your home for any length of time no matter what the story is.
First of all you are doing her a favor by letter her stay with you. So don't be afraid to stand up for yourself and ask her can you talk to her with out her taking you wrong or getting hurt feelings with you. If this is truly going to cause you financial problems them you must find the courage to talk to her about this. Your husband is looking out for that interest and you should to and address it since she is you friend. A true friend would understand and chances ar she is just doing what she thinks will help you out and not make you feel burdened by her imposing on you for the help you've offered to her.

  • How do you wash abercrombie clothes?

I think my abercrombie and american eagle clothes expand after they are hand washed, and hanged to dry.How do you wash abercrombie clothes?
use a washing machine....How do you wash abercrombie clothes?
Well, you know they are just like regular clothes. They aren't like cashmere or anything. Just throw them in the washer, or if you're really worried get them dry cleaned. Not very hard. :P And, they aren't expensive so if you ruin it, buy a new one. And, if you have some special attachment to some last season article of clothing buy it on ebay or buy the new version, there's a reason why it gets replaced every year. :)
    ya that is Truth

    answer mine please http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>
you can wash them regularly like in a washer and dryer. its easy as that.
I just throw mine in the washer with all my other clothes and in the drier
i've noticed that too.. i wish i knew how to get them to keep their shape
put them in the washing machine. dumbshit.

Is it customary to wait at a laundromat while you wash your clothes, or can you leave?

I've never been to a laundromat in my life and I just don't know what is normal practice when using one. Thanks for the help!Is it customary to wait at a laundromat while you wash your clothes, or can you leave?
Use a laundromat with an attendant on duty. They are usually cleaner.

If you want to leave, just ask the attendant to watch your machines. also if you need to leave, give the attendant money so they can move the clothes around for you . sometimes they will at least do that, because it frees up the machines for others.

    **

attendants will help..it's in their best interest that your clothes are safe..or you won't go back ...clothes are usually stolen from the dryer..the items have now been cleaned and dried and they are visible thru the glass doors...good luck...Is it customary to wait at a laundromat while you wash your clothes, or can you leave?
It would be my suggestion that while you are at the Laundromat, stay there with your clothes. Although we would like to think that nothing could happen to our belongings, it can. Someone could mistake your clothing for theirs, and leave with them or if you aren't back in time when your machines stop, someone can remove your clothes from the machines, etc. There are certain laundromats that , if you don't have the time to stay there, they will wash your laundry for you for a fee. Where I am from, it is about $0.60 per pound of clothing. But do note that they will not be responsible for lost, stolen or damaged articles of clothing.
It depends on how safe the laundromat feels to you, and their policies. Staying can be boring, but it does insure that no one steals your laundry, because most places will state quite clearly that they are not responsible for lost or stolen items. If you do leave do not go for long, especially if the place is busy, because people will move your laundry around.
My sister and I used to meet at the laundromat once a week for dinner. We would put our wash in the machine and go across the street for Chinese food - so much fun, but someone stole my detergent once while we were in the restaurant. I've heard of people getting their clothes stolen, but it has never happened to me.
Our nearest launderette (UK name) is in a small neighbourhood shopping precinct. I put the wash in (only normally use launderette for duvet washing) and then go to the newsagent/sweet shop and buy chocolate and a magazine. I would make sure I was back before the machine finished because you never know who is going to walk in there and steal your king size winter duvet!
I always left, but I used the dry cleaning machines. So they were seldom busy and no one waiting.

Depends on the neighborhood...and if the machines are busy.

If the machines are buys then stay..

Also be VERY careful with clothes dryers..they can run HOT..so a little dry will do ya..in fact you can take out damp dry and hang...cheaper and better for wrinkle reduction.

I would not leave my detergents.

Either. You could bring a book or some homework, do some crosswords...

You can also leave. I wouldn't stay gone more than 1/2 hour for the washing and about an hour for the drying.

Much easier to have a seat and read, I've always found.
I always stay. It's kind of rude to just leave, especially if you are late coming back which can happen. You could be holding someone up or find your stuff thrown on the floor or on a dusty/dirty table. I usually just brought a book with me. I would sit and read.
If you are not there to get your clothes out and someone wants to use a machine. You might find your clothes all over the place and need to wash them again. You might not even be able to find your clothes.
If you leave, you run the risk of having your clothes stolen. I've taken the risk before, but only with clothes I didn't care about too much.
People WILL steal your clothes. I would stay.
I always stay there, because one time when I left, someone stole some of my stuff. Just take something to read.

Need a fast answer, ten points! =]...is there any way to wash clothes without washing powder?

Random question, I know, and I'm sorry if this isn't the right category, but I needed answers quickly =]

If I was going to HANDWASH clothes, is there anything i could use other than washing powder? Whats the next best thing? (e.g. soap? shampoo?)

And I'm going to handwash them, so I'm NOT looking for something else to put in the machine

sorry, I know its a stupid question, but any help would be great! And I suppose its a break from the 'does it sound like he likes me?' questions =P I'll answer yours if you answer mine!Need a fast answer, ten points! =]...is there any way to wash clothes without washing powder?
washing up liquidNeed a fast answer, ten points! =]...is there any way to wash clothes without washing powder?
Definitely soap! i do it all the time, half my clothes have to be handwashed!
My great granny used to use LUX soap flakes, which were made for shampoo to laundry!

It sounds like soft grated soap, if my granny's description is anything to go by.

I tried the same thing for my undies and t-shirts at uni, just grating some very plain soap, and I didn't have any problems.

I guess if you buy the most basic shower-gel/shampoo you can find (20p in Asda etc) it'll do the trick too, and saves on grating!

I saw a Michael Palin travel show recently. He was in India where there's a HUGE outdoor laundry. The guys there had immaculate whites, and all they used was regular plain soap and a scrubbing brush. (They whacked the clothes onto the stone too, but that's not always needed).

It helps to remember all these ';products'; are new in the big scheme of things. I use Bicarb of Soda to fix dye in the wash, and it's the basic ingredient in lots of ';products';. If our ancestors managed, then so can we!

Dig for victory, make do and mend...and so on!
dishwashing soapp and hand soap work the bestt.
Yes soap is very useful (especially for the tougher stains), although washing powder is good as well.

Although if you don't mind my asking, why wouldn't you want to use washing powder anyway?
    soap hunn
very hot water and soap. i mean handwashing soap. but not a cheesy one
how about some plain old liquid laundry soap?
you can use hand soap! i do it all the time:)
im not sure if this is what your looking for but when i hand wash stuff i just dissolve about half a handfull of washing powder in warm water and then soak whatever. then put it in the machine for a rinse and spin
shampoo for wash conditioner for softener works really well i use it if i run out of proper stuff
I use dawn dish liquid for delicate clothes.
Any kind of soap or shampoo that contains sodium laureth sulfate. even foam bath. Just avoid stuff with loads of moisturisers in it. Washing up liquid works well.
Yes, you can use Palmolive dishwashing soap or Ivory dishwashing soap, they work, just put a litle bit. Good Luck!!!
    just use normal soap

How can I wash my clothes in Barcelona?

In October I'll going to be staying at a hostel near the La Rambla/ MACBA area and I found out the hostel doesn't have laundry machines available. Is there an affordable way I can wash my clothes? Is there a laundromat nearby? My next stop after Barcelona is Venice and there may not be laundry services in that hostel either. How can I wash my clothes in Barcelona?
There are tons of places to wash your clothes, your best bet is to wait till you get there and ask the hostel staff where they do theirs. But if you are really really worried, I can promise you that you will pass three laundrymats in your first day of wandering. Happy Travels! How can I wash my clothes in Barcelona?
    hand wash them??
worst case wash them in the bath tub in your hotel room and hang them to dry
Take a travel bottle and fill it with TIDE or pther laundry soap and wash your stuff by hand and then hang to dry. If you wring the clothes in a towel it will get rid of the excess water and your clothes will dry faster.

OR, you can always make time to find a public laundrymat and use their facilities.

How do you wash colored clothes?

I'm 14 and i seriously don't know how to wash clothes. How do you wash colored clothes?
Always sort them by color.....whites in one load, light colored clothes in another load, and dark items by themselves. Also, if you have brand new dark clothes like jeans or red tops, wash them by themselves as they will ';bleed'; the first couple of times. Otherwise you will stain the rest of your clothes in the washer. Hope this helps. How do you wash colored clothes?
Sort the clothes into darks %26amp; whites(light colours) %26amp; wash in cold water. good on you for trying
    inside out with cold water
    with cold water...

How do I wash my clothes without shrinking them?

I have a couple new shirts I really like and they have never been washed, well I wore both of them this week and now they need to be washed, but I don't want to wash them because I don't want the shirts to shrink, how can I wash them without them shrinking? (I heard washing them in the washing machine with cold water, and then air drying them works.)How do I wash my clothes without shrinking them?
are your shirts cotton? if so, they might shrink if they didn't come preshrunk, but they will only shrink by about 5% at most. what's important is to do what the tag says. if it says wash in cold water, no bleach, and tumble dry low, then you could have a somewhat delicate shirt. but if it says you can use warm or hot water and tumble dry, you have a shirt that's easy to care for. this is a huge advantage since shirts are easy to stain. if it says hand wash and dry flat, you could have quite a delicate shirt you should be careful with. the important thing is to look at the tags, understand the fibers the shirts are made of, and clean according to the directions even if that means dry cleaning. shrinking is not your only risk when you think of how to clean a shirt. How do I wash my clothes without shrinking them?
Yes you can wash then in cold water and hang them, but they will be as stiff and itchy as ever. Turn them inside out and machine wash cold delicate cycle. Then when you dry them use the lowest heat setting possible and get them out before they dry completely but are almost dry. You should now have clean unshrunken shirts.
cold water, air dry is what I would do also.
Yes, wash the shirts in cold water , then use your dryer for about five minutes on low heat to get the wrinkles out, then pull them out of the dryer and let them air dry.
what fabric are they made of? Cotton and cotton blends have a higher tendancy to shrink but it is usually any source of heat that will shrink them so you are right cold water and air dry.
you can wash them in the machine . Put them on a 30潞c or a delicate wash. Or you can wash them by hand , also look on the label on the inside of the shirt , it will tell you what Temp you should wash them on
Wash in the delicate cycle with Woolite. If they are a sweater type then dry flat on a towel. If they are woven or knit (unless the directions say otherwise) then hang on hangers and let air dry. My mom always does this with her shirts. She says it really helps.
Wash them in cold water then dry them on low heat in your dryer. This will prevent them from shrinking.
    Have them professionally dry cleaned
wash in cold water and air dry them heat from your dryer and hot water is the cause of shrinking clothes you can dry in dryer just use the fluff no heat cycle
    hand wash in cold water
Just wash them in cold water and put them in the dryer on tumble low, thats what I do and I've not had any shrink on me yet.

  • Have you ever thrown a fluffy towel in with your clothes when washing?

Or thrown colors in with your whites, and don't you just hate it, I have fluff all over my good shorts, and the worst part is i knew i shouldn't have but i did it anyway.Have you ever thrown a fluffy towel in with your clothes when washing?
Yes, done both of those thing but I've also put in clothes that have tissues in pockets or up sleeves and that does make me mad. You get little bits of wet tissue all over your clothes and all over the kitchen floor. What's worse is its my own fault, cos my husband never puts tissues up his sleeves or in his pockets. He always throws them away. So the tissue shower is all my doing.Have you ever thrown a fluffy towel in with your clothes when washing?
No, but my husband has gotten out of laundry duty permanently by letting pants with an ink pen go in the dryer and explode...on mother's day!!!

Is it better to wash clothes hot or cold?

do you guys wash your clothes in the washer machine with hot or cold water and what is the pros and cons of it? should i was my clothes with cold water to prevent shrinking? Is it better to wash clothes hot or cold?
Cold is better on your budget since it uses less energy and it more gentle on fabric. It even does a better job in getting stains out in most circumstances.

Hot uses more energy and is harsh and can shrink 100% cotton.

Both are okay to use; I don't recommend someone using cold/cold but perhaps warm/cold.

Hot/cold is to be used in extreme circumstances; for example, when you need to sterilize a garment or fabric (cloth diapers for example).

What would happen if one always washed ones clothes in sea water/salt water and used them like normal?

Would the salt have any effect on the body or would nothing happen? What would happen to the fabric? What would happen if one always washed ones clothes in sea water/salt water and used them like normal?
Most likely there will be no serious effects from washing your clothes in salt water. Salt consists of Sodium and Chloride, both of these are isotopes that are found in ordinary tap water anyway. Of course the concentrations of these isotopes (Sodium and Chloride) will be higher than in tap water, it is still not going to be elevated enough to give you any toxic effects.

The main issue that you may run into is that it could cause you to have some dry skin. The drier your skin becomes, the more susceptible you would be to having minor skin irritations. So if you are someone that has sensitive skin, then you may want to consider not washing in the salt water, or at least if you continue to do so, make sure you are using a good hypo-allergenic lotion to keep your skin healthy and moisturized.

One other thing to consider that may be a positive take on using the sea water, is that Sodium and Chloride both can help to get rid of certain metals that exist naturally and accidentally in nature and water. Metals such as Lead and Antimony, which are classified as heavy metals due to the fact that they have a higher AMU (atomic mass units) than other metals. Most of these can be toxic in high enough levels, so at least with the brine or slat water, you are getting an extra filtration effect that can get rid of some of these harmful metals.

All in all you should not be concerned. What would happen if one always washed ones clothes in sea water/salt water and used them like normal?
There are several reasons you would WANT to wash your clothes in salt water, mostly to ';set'; the dye and prevent it from bleeding out. But why wash in salt water just for the fun of it? The salt left in the clothes may not cause any problems but I've read stories about some sailors having rashes caused by the salt left in the clothes. Folks (sailors) used to wash all their clothes in salt water and they survived, albeit a hard life. Here's a cute little article: http://seachestsecret.questacon.edu.au/a鈥?/a>

Is it ok to wash our clothes with the baby's if we use detergent for sensitive skin?

I always thought you had to use special stuff and wash their clothes seperate but I'm hearing different. Is it ok to wash our clothes with the baby's if we use detergent for sensitive skin?
i have a 5yr old and when he was born he broke out in rash hours after birth he has extremely sensitive skin and allergies to this day i use everything hypo and all his skin products are aveno, i do wash his clothes separate specially undergarments maybe im just paranoid but at least i dont worry about it.. we do use the same detergent ....Is it ok to wash our clothes with the baby's if we use detergent for sensitive skin?
I wash my daughter's clothes (6 months) with mine every time. I do use a more sensitive detergent, but I don't see why they can't be washed together.
As long as the detergent is for sensitive skin, I always use the ';free'; type or organic soap nuts (available at an all-natural food store). You can put all of the clothes together.
yes it fine! you dont have to use sensitive detergent though unless your baby is alergic to certain ones! i wash ours with the babies too!
You do not have to use dreft or anything like that unless your baby has sensitive skin...I use dreft with my son because he has sensitive skin and personally would not wash our clothes together because i don't use the dreft on my cloths but i don't see a problem washing your cloths with your babys but i also separate cloths and i do not separate my sons cloths there would be way to many loads!!
    It's fine.
i've always been told to wash the baby's clothes with baby clothes the first time. like do one big load of nothing of baby clothes, blankets, sheets, and so forth. and then you can wash them with your own clothes with any kind of detergent
You dont even HAVE TO wash their clothes with special deteregent but many people do, I have always washed our babies' clothes with ours in the normal deteregent we use (free %26amp; clear).
It is fine. The baby detergent is the same detergentar that is hypo-allergenic/sensitive skin/dye free, just marketed different. Next time you are at the stores, just double check the labels.
    MINK
I thought the same thing when I was pregnant. But I ended up using regular detergent with our clothes and the baby's and everything was fine, she didn't break out or anything. Dreft is so expensive and in my opinion, not worth it.
The ';Baby Detergent'; belief is so over-rated.You do not NEED to use baby detergent, it's more a money-making thing. I fell for the same thing, heard that I didn't need and started using regular detergent....everything was A-OK. My son has sensitive skin too and it never affected him.
as long as u use something without frag and dyes u should be fine...
yea thats what i did with my daughter, I used dreft on my oldest only to learn it was a huge waste of money and when my daughter came i used clorox clear and when my newest one came i made my own laundry soap. I only wash the baby's clothes seperatly so i can find all his clothes. You can even go a step further and use regular just dont use much soap. and if your baby cant handle it theyll get a skin reaction.

    Clothes washing business?

I want to start my clothes washing business. I'm just wondering what kind of prices I should charge...any suggestions?Clothes washing business?
    How about per basket?

    Maybe $5?

If they have ';special request'; then you need to charge accordingly.

Do you have to pick up and drop off the clothes?? Then you need to add in for fuel.

Remember, you are , separating, washing, drying, folding, hanging and keeping them separated from other customers, and using YOUR supplies, so that should be fair.

    You have to charge for:

Detergent, Bleach, Borax or Oxy Clean, Softener, Dryer Sheets, hangars, water, electricity , lingerie bags and time.

    EDIT:

Don't forget that Sam's and Costco, big quantity cheaper prices for name brand.

Should I wash my clothes in hot or cold water to shrink them?

Hot. Although heat make things expand, it has an effect on cotton that causes it to shrink up. Don't use hot water on synthetic materials though, it can melt them.Should I wash my clothes in hot or cold water to shrink them?

  • How to wash white clothes whiter?

Bleach yes, but you can get whiteners which make them POP, they pick up more UV lighting. It will be called blueing or whitening, I can't remember the brand my mom uses, but its White Snow or something. Borax is also good too, my sister loves it. I prefer those to bleaching the heck out of it.How to wash white clothes whiter?
Bleach. Although, believe it or not, a little bit of dish liquid makes them brighter too!How to wash white clothes whiter?
Wash the white clothes in white water using white soap and white bleach.
    USE BLEACH.
    white out
I've heard that Oxy Clean has a detergent that is very good.

Other than bleach that is the only alternative that I know. The trick to washing with bleach I find, is to let the clothes soak in the machine with the bleach for about 30minutes to 1hr, depending on how soiled they are.
Oxyclean -- using too much bleach will turn your clothes yellow.
    Bleach.
if nothing but white will be washed, use twice the amount of bleach, but use the option for a second rinse and spin
    bleach

bleach. But only use it on pure white clothes, no designs in other colors, it will fade the colors. You can also use a bleach alternative.

No, I wouldn't wash with alcohol. You can spot clean with it, but you need detergent to wash your clothes.

Why do crayon companies say treating wax stains on clothes by putting dishwashing liquid then washing it?

how does the treatment workWhy do crayon companies say treating wax stains on clothes by putting dishwashing liquid then washing it?
Because dish washing liquid is a enzyme and it usually works on many stains. But I found that if you scrape as much as possible off first, then get you iron and heat to warm not hot. Take a piece of paper towel and fold it, put it under the stain and put a single piece on top of the stain, and iron gently, that will heat the wax and remove it, make sure each time you change the paper towel so as not to get stains anywhere else. it works, Then wash it with your dish washing liquid. Why do crayon companies say treating wax stains on clothes by putting dishwashing liquid then washing it?
It cuts through the wax...think about it!
Dishwashing detergent, among other things, breaks down the grease and oil that you see on a lot of dirty dishes. So it would work on crayon too, given that a lot of crayons have an oil-type base.
About 25 years ago the Fed. gov't removed all phosphates from detergents because of water pollution. The dishwasher companies said their products wouldn't work without them. The Feds said OK. That's why the detergent works so well

Do you think that using my toilet to wash my clothes would be good for the environment?

what exactly are you washing your clothes with, and where exactly do your pipes lead? if there is a pyrification system at the end of the process, i do not see a problem, seeing as we wash chemicals and cleaners down our toilets constantly.

Is it ok to wash baby clothes in general-use laudromats?

I'm trying to prepare for the arrival of our little boy in about a week and was wondering if it was safe to wash baby clothes and linens in the general-use washer %26amp; dryer we have in our building. Some friends recommended getting a personal washer just for washing baby clothes. Any advice would be appreciated. Is it ok to wash baby clothes in general-use laudromats?
the general use washer/dryer is just fine.Is it ok to wash baby clothes in general-use laudromats?
you can and should wash them in the same appliances as you wash your own. you can use the same detergent as well, so long as the baby doesn't get any reactions from it. just use a baby-soft fabric softener in your wash, and use dryer sheets for babies in the dryer.
When our daughter was first born we had no problems using general use washers and dryers. We have our own now but it doesnt affect the clothes. To save a little money though you can use All free and clear instead of Dreft. It has the same effect and you can use it with your clothes as well. And if if want your clothes to have a scent just use dryer sheets with your clothes. Congrats on the baby, good luck and god bless.
It's fine, just use a detergent free of dye and scent and no fabric softener or dryer sheets. Once the baby is older you could try using the softener or sheets and see if it causes a reaction. We use All free and clear and she does just fine.
I have never heard of that. Any washer will be fine. You may want to use gentle cycle and I personally recommend Ivory Snow or Dreft detergent. but my SIL never used any special detergent for her babies and they never had a reaction. My babies must have had sensitive skin
I have never heard of that. who ever told you that is crazy you can use the same washing machine and dryer for your babies clothes and your clothes. just get dreft to wash them instead of what you use.
    Yes it is fine.

Why does one of my socks always go missing when i wash my clothes?

it's so god damn annoying, i have two feet not one god damn it. what the hell can i do with one sock? Because of washing machine gnomesWhy does one of my socks always go missing when i wash my clothes?
Well the socks could have fallen right before you put them in the washer or they might be stuck on your clothes after they come out of the dryer. The static electricity may be keeping them on jeans, or underwear or even on the metal inside of the dryer.

if that's not the case then I suggest you buy a whole ton of very cheap white or black socks and you'll always have a pair even if one is lost.
Either your feet stink and they wanna get away ASAP

or the secret monster that lives in the washing machine's toes were a little cold so he took them.

  • Is it better to wash white clothes in hot or cold water?

I find hot works better :)Is it better to wash white clothes in hot or cold water?
if you use bleach with your whites you need to use cold water, hot water makes bleach uneffective, without bleach use hotIs it better to wash white clothes in hot or cold water?
    cold
Definitely hot or warm water....As the machine is filling up, I always add a half a cup of bleach along with my regualer detergent to get whites Reeaally white. I do this evey other wash, though. Otherwise it can be hard on your clothing. Use cold H2o for darks.
i use hot for my whites and cold for my darks.
    hot water removes stains better
hot water works best for my white clothes
Typically the whites cycle runs in hot water. But if the clothes are delicate, I would wash them in cold. It is easier on the fibers. Plus, Tide makes detergent now specifically for cold water, so they still get really clean.
hot water with bleach, dont forget the bleach hun. about a cup.
Ever see those Clorox Bleach commericals? Hot water and bleach!
Hot is good for whites and jeans, warm is good for t shirts, cold is good for delicates.
Depends on what they're made of and what you want to accomplish besides getting them clean.
    Hot.
Hot water, I really don't know exactly why, but I'm a Mom and my daughter socks got more white in hot water that cold. Also if you dry your clothes outside in the sun, they got whiter.
Hot water is better for whites. It takes of any stains or dirt easier.
I wash everything in cold for 2 reasons. 1) Nothing shrinks. 2) save on the power bill.
    Hot water
    Hot water
    hot.
    hot
If clothes are synthetic, dont try hot water at any cost. If you have cotten wears, must wash white cloths with hot water.
That will depend on the fabric. The colour is not the determining factor for the water temperature.
Hot water, you use cold for colored cloths because they wont fade as fast.
    Hot.
    hot
I use Hot water for the white clothes.
Usually hot or warm water. It is best to read the care label on your clothes though, because some types of fabrics need to be washed differently than other types of fabrics. Some cloths can't even be put in a washing machine, and have to be sent to the dry cleaner, which is a bummer because that is expensive.
It is better with hot water because when you use bleach with your white clothes it kills the jerms better.
    hot water
hot for whites cold for darks..
    warm water....

For cottons use white vinegar and water to set the dye. Toss in a little salt and it will help to fix the dye in the fabric and help it to remain brighter. Vinegar and water is gentle and will get the body oils out as well. Rinsing will eliminate the salad smell. How to wash clothes at home that is not to give in laundries to protect colour waht is to be used?
Make solt water. Keep cloths in that water for 12 hours. Wash with soap after 12 hours.

When to start washing baby's clothes?

I'm 30 weeks now and was wondering when is it a good idea to start washing the baby's clothes? I was thinking very soon since I have been soooo tired and suffering from lots of swelling.. I can't imagine how I'll feel weeks from now, but I'm not sure if it's too soon. The ones I will wash I would put in the drawers. Any input? When to start washing baby's clothes?
Wash them now if you want to. The more preparation you do ahead of time the better. My husband was giving me a hard time because I had my bag packed for the hospital two months early and had him set up the bassinette so early but then my baby came three weeks ahead of schedule! So it was actually good that I had done so much. Also, never underestimate the power of nesting! When you start feeling like you need to get things done, its a good sign the baby is coming soon. So follow your instincts. When to start washing baby's clothes?
nesting is a nice feeling, however I would not overestimate its ability to predict when your baby will be out :-). I'd wait and wash them about a month before you due date, it's more than enough... In the beginning, whe you are in the hospital, you don't need that much of baby stuff, as the hospital provides it for you, so in case you give birth earlier that 36 weeks, you will still have some clothes on hand...

Has it not occuired to manufacturers that Washing Clothes at lower temperatures is not Hygenic?

It occurred to me the other day that putting your clothes into a washing machine,on cool washes in order to save energy, and reduce your carbon footprint is not hygienic. Manufacturers are making machines that do lower and lower temperatures, as are the manufacturers of washing powders; but they are not taking into account a family wash split into loads of coloureds and whites. There must and is cross contamination with regard to say yeast infections, skin infections, fecal cross contamination, staphylococcal infections etc, etc.

Surely, unless we use an antibacterial agent in our washing machine at low temp under 60degC, then we are all costing our governments, and ourselves more money in treatments for the cross infection caused by low washing temperatures. The bleach agents put into washing powders do not work at lower temperatures, and therefore we are washing clothes and cross contaminating.!!

you are absolutely correct, i said this a while back. all my sheets and towels go on a 90 wash and its said that bed bugs and lice are making a comeback because of our wish to wash things at lower temperatures.

i think there is a huge issue too, about the balance of what is good or bad for the environment, which is better? the use of fuel to wash at higher temps or the use of highly chemical components to wash at lower temps (which have to be discarded somewhere along the line)

i wash at high temps with non bio productsHas it not occuired to manufacturers that Washing Clothes at lower temperatures is not Hygenic?
An interesting point, to be sure.

But I don't know if the hottest household water makes all that much difference with regards to bacteria. By that logic we should all be bathing in scalding hot water.

The main agent in removing harmful bacteria from our clothes and skin is soap. Soap makes it difficult for bacteria to adhere to things and so it falls off and goes down the drain.

Hot water is more helpful in removing stains from fabric because it softens things up, it's not for hygenic reasons.
Clothes aren't a very good medium for bacteria to grow on. Just like bacteria are more likely to grow on your skin than your toilet seat. Detergent is enough to take care of any contaminants that would actually end up on your clothes, because they won't keep multiplying. Unless you keep your clothes warm, wet, and in some type of animal fat broth. Also you should look for papers that have been published in more reputable journals. : )
well in culinary arts the tempature danger zone is 41 135. but i dont want to sidetrack off of anything. I dont know i just read what the lable says but, they wouldnt just make machines and stuff without researching, im sure its a loop hole somewhere so it can be hygenic. Afterall buisness needs its money.
A good idea would be to iron your clothes as soon as they are out from the dryer. Thats what i do. Here in India, we have 'istiwalas' who will knock on doors every evening when the washing is done %26amp; dry. Hand over your washing to them %26amp; in 1 hours time they return it neatly ironed %26amp; bacteria free.
have you ever jumped in the washing machine with the cloths , try it but make sure you bring a thermometer so , this would be proof. by princess if you need my help , you can count on me.
Hence why I can recognise a marketing ploy when I see one hehe. I have never washed at 40/30 deg, I have always washed at 60 and will continue to do so, with two kids under 2 I have to have things properly clean!!
You are so right, all this energy saving propaganda flies in the face of much previous evidence. I am particular about washing underwear (apart from delicate bras) at 50/60潞 depending on fabric type to kill any bacteria present.
i cant see washing at a low temp gets your clothes clean as for bleaches in soap powders i don't use them as they fade your cloths i will wash as i all ways have you can not cut corners in washing if you want it clean
Interesting question had no idea about the cross contamination. They are turning or trying to turn us into a nation of worriers. We have become too clean that's why all the new bugs are floating around.
An interesting question indeed. I suffered for years waking up feeling lousy for some reason . I discovered it was BED MITES, a anti mite spray cured the problem completely
I'd never wash my bedclothes, towels or underwear at any temperature less than 60 whatever they advise. And I put a few drops of tea tree oil in with the softener.
I believe you are correct, and we were all taught that all bugs need to multiply is somewhere warm and damp.
Yes of course! If you don't wash bed linen on a hot wash every so often, it won't kill any bugs that are lurking.
Bleach is the cure for that.
    hmm
At what temperature are bacteria killed? I thought it had to be 100 degrees.

Most of your laundry will not stand such high temperatures, although I do wash heavy cottons like denim at 95 degrees. This is to remove stains.

If someone were ill, with infections, then yes, I can understand the need for a higher temperature wash. I would not use an anti-bacterial solution simply because I would not want to increase the risk of resistant bacteria. Detergent itself kills bacteria.

But I don't think a temperature of 60 degress is sufficient to kill bacteria.

I do iron everything (well, almost everything) so that should take care of any lingering bugs.

I honestly don't think in a household environment we need to worry too much about cross-contamination, unless there is a specific problem.
Bleach does work at low temperatures- bleach is bleach regardless of what temperature it is used at. Cross contamination will occur in any wash cycle where there is not any bleach used. Good thing you have a nice hot dryer to put all of your clothes in to heat them up properly and kill any germs left on them. Another thing...antibacterial detergent...are you serious? Haven't you heard of the problems will all of these antibacterial products out there. 99.9% effective- even wonder about the last .1%, yeah that's the strong germs that are left behind to reproduce and create more strong germs that are resistant to all of your antibacterial products. Those germs then go on to create new super breeds, so on and so on.
I maybe wrong (frequently am) but unless you boil clothes it's all relative! I'm not for one minute suggesting that we should boil anything when washing - most clothes outside of cotton would be ruined if we did! Consequently lower temperatures and a good quality washing powder/liquid are all we have available to us. Antibacterial agents don't solve problems - bugs just become acclimatised to them. In the days when I was young we hand washed most things and as far as I'm aware my family didn't suffer as a result.

I put all my clothes in the washing machine on Warm Wash--the other options were cold or hot. Will reds bleed?

Yes. Wash with like colors, cold water.I put all my clothes in the washing machine on Warm Wash--the other options were cold or hot. Will reds bleed?
Wash in cold water to minimize bleeding. If the shirts have been washed 5 or more times before it is ok to wash them on cold with other colors.I put all my clothes in the washing machine on Warm Wash--the other options were cold or hot. Will reds bleed?
I never wash reds with anything but pinks. Sometimes the first wash or so, they could bleed.
Reds bleed no matter the temp of the water ... but cold is best.

  • I am trying to buy a traditional clothes prop (the sort that props up a washing line) I live in Cornwall.?

I have had no luck trying to find the traditional type which has two parallel poles with holes through and a peg to push through the holes to hold it at the required height. I live in Cornwall so do not have a great choice of retailers, but if someone knows of a company who I can order from I would be glad to hear from them.

Such a simple item but so hard to find!I am trying to buy a traditional clothes prop (the sort that props up a washing line) I live in Cornwall.?
Go to a timber supplier, Travis Perkins comes to mind as they are a nationwide company, and ask their timber expert what he would suggest as strong enough for your needs.

I suggest a piece about12feet long and at least 2 inches by 2 inches. Use a saw to cut a V in one end to push onto the line and there you have it. Adjust height by varying the angle of the prop.

Total cost about 拢4.00I am trying to buy a traditional clothes prop (the sort that props up a washing line) I live in Cornwall.?
I recently bought a traditional clothes prop from Kleeneze; it is metal, extends in length and has a hook on the end that closes around the clothes line, so that it cannot blow down. If there is not a distributor in your area log on to http://www.kleeneze.co.uk/ for further information as I think you can now also shop on line. Hope you find what you are looking for.
Not being funny now but ,would not it be just as cheap to buy a length of timber %26amp; put your ';v'; shape in the end %26amp; use it or, perhaps you have a Homebase or Argos close at hand?
Hi Bazou thought I just say I recently got a line-prop from Asda (with the two parallel poles and a hole for the wee plastic peg thingy).

Well I lost the plastic peg thingy after about 1 week of stormy weather. I found it was a bit feeble for I had quite a weight of work wear clothes and blankets etc as regular wash day. I thought well what do I do next I asked my son who welds cars to help me perdiciment. Two minutes later he gave me the line-prom back alas with a simple jubilee clip whick costs less than 50 pence. It is now a terrific clothes-prop with fantastic height which my neighbours are envious off my clothes dry in no time so high up and the prop is very strong now after adjustments.

Try link below for line-prop and get a jubilee clip from your local petrol station.

Why woman check pockets of man......before washing clothes......?

why most woman check pockets of man ... before washing closes or at night.. when he is not there......Why woman check pockets of man......before washing clothes......?
because men forget and leave things in their pocket. we have to check or there's not telling what will be ruined. Why woman check pockets of man......before washing clothes......?
I check the pockets because I have found lots of money that way. Before I got married and washed my family's clothes, on of my brother's left over a hundred dollars in a pocket. I even gave both of them the opportunity to claim it, but he said it wasn't his. That was a great day. That was the most I ever found.

I check my husbands pockets because he usually leaves a pen or permanent marker in his pocket and it ends up ruining the load of laundry. I only had to learn that lesson once. And I was so mad because it was really nice clothes ruined. I would let him do some of the laundry but that was another lesson learned the hard way. my whites came out pink
because if we don't and just put your pants in the wash, the money or other important receipts that are in your pocket will get ruined and then you're obviously going to get angry right?!
women r caring n concerned... if theres any imp information or details... so.. did u get that?
so she doesn't wash his cell phone or wallet, usually. it's because we men tend to forget to take things out of our pockets. they're just checking to make sure nothing gets ruined. it's not snooping.
So that something valuable doesn't get ruined in the washing machine.

Why? What did you have in there that you didn't want her to see?
before washing because if he have some paper there all the otrer clothes will get that, an at night i think is to chek if he have some money there XD or a note from another girl.
Sometimes people leave small or tiny objects, such as money, jewelry maybe even a condom in a man's jeans or pants pocket. That's the reason women who does the laundry, always checks the pockets of clothing before washing and drying them.
    for money honey!
I only check when doing laundry and taht's because my hubby is notorius for leaving things in his pockets ie: ink pens and gum etc. and it ruins the dry cleaning and laundry
Because there might be loose change in there or wadded up bills, and those are HERS to keep if she wishes. There also might be other things in there that could get loose in the wash/dry cycle that could ruin some or all of the clothes in the laundry, so better to be safe than sorry. IT's all a part of sorting luandry, otherwise u get little regrets later.
Because guys tend to leave change in their pockets and she wants to prevent damage to the washer, and because guys often leave used facial tissues (Kleenex, for one) in their pockets, which disintegrate when put through the wash, and leave the otherwise clean clothes covered with shreds of tissue that are a real pain in the butt to get off - sometimes the damn laundry has to be run through the washer twice because of his forgetfulness. And it isn't just a man problem - because I'm retired and my wife still works, I do the laundry - and dang if SHE don't continually leave tissues in HER pockets! Jeez, Louise!
That woman is wise to check the pockets before she put it to the wash, . I work in a wardrobe dept. The laundry ppl.check all the pockets uniforms before they put it to the washing machine. You 'll be amaze of what we return to the employees of what they forgot from their pockets. Have a nice day.
Ok, she can wash your billfold, your lighter, your papers you may have left in your pants...really brilliant idea. Step back a moment and think instead of writing a dumb question.
Well mostly to see if you left any paper or kleenex in there so it wont get all over the other cloths . But I would go further and say its to find some evidence you been cheating on her like a note from a lover or a credit card reciept or a rubber.
    usually for money...
Nothing bad about it as it prevents anything valuable, whether money or some important document from being washed or destroyed. Also, it might reveal some telltale evidences of the man's extra marital affairs, accidentally left in the pocket.
Because they want 2 make shure their mans Money dont go in waste..
Well..from experience I can tell you that once I didn't check my husbands pants pockets before washing only to find out that he had left his paycheck in the back pocket. I caught hell for that one. So now I make sure I check all the pockets and sometimes get a nice surprise ($$$) and such. If you want to keep your secrets safe then make sure you do your own pocket checking before YOU do your own clothes washing.
I check his pockets to make sure i don't wash anything important. I once washed his paycheck because i didn't check his pant. Luckily his boss gave him another one.
At night I don't know before washing clothes so nothing gets ruined by the water. See a lot things get messed up if they get wet. Or maybe your girl thinks your a cheating piec of sh**.
Ever seen what a kleenex will do to a wash?
I always check. Never know when one of the kids put a crayon in their pocket, or my husband left a pen in a jacket. I would rather take a couple seconds and check then ruin all that clothing. If you have something in your pockets you are trying to hide...maybe you should not be hiding it....or wash your own clothes!
I check my fiance's pockets because our dryer is brand new and top-of-the-line and he has the habit of leaving anything sticky, inky, and papery in his pockets.

We're not all suspicious, you know.
because pens in the washer and dryer is bad!!! guys tend to leave stuff in their pockets although I agree somewhat with the first answer, I don't check pockets or unroll socks, if you are too silly to empty your pockets or unwad clothing you have just taken off, it gets washed as is!!
    For Money!!!!
there may be some thing left in the pockets thats y
I started checking his pockets when i started finding

Nails, bolts, screws, nuts, Busted Ink Pens, Wallet, ring, money, knives, screwdrivers etc etc

    in the washing machine!

If he would empty his own pockets i wouldn't bother them, but until that time i am not going to try to get ink stains out of the clothes anymore!
Because rule of thumb is to check all pockets of clothing before washing them to prevent anything getting damaged in the wash. How would you like if you had gum or better a pen in your pocket and it wasnt checked prior to washing and messed up a pants or shirt of yours.
i told my husband when we first married that when i do his laundry, i will not check his pockets...it ends up in the dryer
    uncle why you here

Which way do you wash your clothes?

Usually, I do it like in this article here: http://www.ehow.com/how_4698754_wash-clo鈥?/a>

How do you like to do it? Do you separate whites from colors, or throw it all together?Which way do you wash your clothes?
Those who throw them all together wear, sooner or later, some weirdly colored clothes.Which way do you wash your clothes?
    First time on your own?

Unless you want pink underwear, t-shirts %26amp; dress shirts, make sure that your whites are washed separate from any colors except for blues.

A little blue tint coming off on your whites is actually a good thing. many fabric manufacturer's add a bluing agent to white fabric to give the illusion of brightness. I don't understand it completely but somehow it works.

aside from protecting your whites, you are good to go mixing mostly anything together if you're not fussy about undies being washed with your facecloths.

If you have darks ie socks and slacks and don't like to have them covered with lint it is advisable to not wash them with towels or light colored sweats as they will be covered in lint when you are done.

If you have to wear dress shirts but hate to iron, be ready to grab and hang your dress shirts while their still hot in the dryer. Or better yet, do what I do and only by 'perfectly pressed' shirts from Mark's Work Warehouse(in Canada only I think). they are the best wrinkle proof shirts you can get for under $60.00. you have to hunt for a good design/pattern but it's worth it.

Try to buy all of your socks in the same brand and color at the same time. this way you never have to pair them.

I left home at 14 and until I got married had been doing all my own laundry since I was 12. Most of the time I mixed everything together regardless of color but it didn't matter because I only bought second hand clothes back then and the risk of color transfer was fairly minimal with used clothing and most of my clothes were blue or white which were always fine to wash together.

Don't sweat it. if you are a guy, most of your clothes are virtually indestructible in the laundry. Girls however need to be more cautious of how they clean their clothes because many of the sweaters, skirts, blouses and undies are made of delicate fabrics that can be damaged by machine washers, hot water, detergents, or heat from the dryer.

Always read the tags on your clothing to see how to wash properly and don't buy clothes that say 'dry clean only' on the tags.

here are some links to a sight that will explain the symbols on the clothing you buy:

    http://www.cleaning101.com/laundry/fabricsymbols2.cfm

If you know your clothes don't bleed, you can safely wash them together. Usually 100 % cotton will bleed. Put a white t-shirt or undies you don't care about in the washer, and see what happens.

If you must mix, and you think their safe, wash a little colder.

Never wash towels with regular clothes.
I sort, lights, whites, pinks and reds, jeans, towels, but but my unmentionables I was totally separate and NEVER dry. Same with sweaters. I wash only my whites and towels in hot, everything else in cold. I used to use warm, but have found no difference. This works for me.
Lemon juice cleans grease off of clothes.

How do you hand wash your clothes?

I've been browsing online for some cute tops lately, but I keep coming to the same conclusion, that 80% of them need to be hand washed.

For those of you who shop at places like Forever 21 where most of their clothes need to be hand washed, how do you wash them?

What kind of soap, how much water, for how long, ect.

And how do you dry them?

Thanks! How do you hand wash your clothes?
I put 90% of them in the washing machine anyways. To dry them you just put it over stair railing or over a chair

How often should you wash the clothes you exercise in?

How often should you wash them? After every workout? Or every two?

Thanks in advance%26lt;3How often should you wash the clothes you exercise in?
After every workout because you are sweating and bacteria will be there so its a good idea to wash after every workout! You should get a couple pairs of workout clothes so that you can rotate them and not have to do laundry after every workout! :-)How often should you wash the clothes you exercise in?
Since you have indicated that you exercise in these clothes, I would say follow manufacturer's instructions on the label-but wash them everyday.
I would wash after everytime i workout. sweat and stink is on the clothes i wouldnt want to wear them without being clean
    Your supposed to wash them???

How do college students wash gym clothes?

Hi there. I'll be a college freshman this fall. I've been working out for a long time now but at home, I can wash my clothes everyday (someone in the house always has something to wash and I just drop mine in). My question is, given how I can't possible do laundry everyday at college, how am I supposed to get my sweaty gym clothes cleaned after work-outs? Also, would it help to buy athletic wear from nike, reebok etc?How do college students wash gym clothes?
your dorm building should have a laundry room where you can wash your clothes, and for some reason if it doesn't have a laundy room, you can go to a nearby laundrymat and wash your clothes. and it will also help if you buy different sets of workout clothes and the brand doesn't matter workout clothes no matter what brand it is, is workout clothes. How do college students wash gym clothes?
what you people don't understand is that washing clothes in dorms costs money! too much money to wash daily.

My suggestion: work out with t-shirts and athletic shorts. You can have a set of t's that you use only for work outs, and a couple shorts that you can re-use before washing.

If anybody ever has a problem with your smell, oh well, you're working out. When they go to a place where people work out, they shouldn't expect everyone to smell pleasant.
Here's a thought, have more than on set of workout clothes.

Grab your wash, and your school work go down to the laundry room-which each dorm building will have-and do a load.

It doesn't matter what brand you buy. why would it.

You are an adult now, put on your big boy pants and deal.
most colleges have laundry rooms in which you can wash your clothing. if not just do it the old fashioned way by hand with soap and water.
    TRY SOAP AND WATER.

  • Do you wash clothes before storing?

I have to store my clothes for a period of 1 month. Do I wash them before storing? I am going to put them in a suitcase any other advice?Do you wash clothes before storing?
How long since the last wash? If it has been over a month I would say wash them again. I wouldn't advise a suitcase, but if you must you should put them in a trash bag first and throw in a couple of moth balls (found in grocery stores or Wal-Mart) and tie it shut, then stick it in the suitcase. You can check this site to see the importance of mothballs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MothballDo you wash clothes before storing?
Always wash your clothes before storing them away. Even in one months time the oils left on them from our bodies, that you can't see, would start to get funky on your clothes. I would also put them in plastic garbage bags in the suitcase and wrap them up tight.
Yes, if they have been worn all the sweat and flakes of skin will bed into the fabric, definitely wash if worn.

    If new then no need.
I do wash before storing. I also wash my extra blankets before I put them up.

You may want to put packets of some desiccant with your clothes to help prevent mildew.

    Good luck!
It depends where u are storing them? If u are going to wash them, u may be best to put them in a vacum type bag, get them from Asda for a couple of pounds, this would keep them fresher than a suitcase!

I think they could still get dirty/pick up funny smells in a suitcase!
You can always store them without washing but they will stink.
definitely , would not do anything else.

How much does it usually cost to wash your clothes at the dry cleaners?

in America.. U.S. dollars please. How much does it usually cost to wash your clothes at the dry cleaners?
Where I live, the washer costs 1 dollar, and the drier costs 25 cents. At different places around the country, the prices vary. How much does it usually cost to wash your clothes at the dry cleaners?
My wedding dress cost $28 to dry clean, and it wasnt really dirty.
50 cents per washing a load. 75 cents drying a load....It depends what part of town and the city, state.:)
    $0.00 I own a washer and dryer!
A dollar to wash seventy five cents to dry
at mine its like 25cents for eight minutes in the dryer. so it probably costs similar for washing

I need some tips on hand washing clothes?

my washer has been broke for about a week now and until i can get another one ive been washing my clothes by hand in my sink or bathtub. i dont want to waste my money going to a laundry mat, i beleive those places are nasty. anyways my question is how can i make sure im really getting my clothes clean after i wash them? what i do is let them soak in hot water and laundry detergent for a little while and if any thing has a stain then try to scrub it out. after i let them soak i rinse them out really well and throw them into the dryer. it could just be where im so use to washing them in the washer but it seems to me after theyre dry they just dont seem as clean as id like them to be...idk is theyre anything more i can do to get them clean? thanx for anyones help!!I need some tips on hand washing clothes?
Oh my dear! A broken washer, I do sympathize with you, as I recently had my laundry room turn upside down while we removed a washer (that BARELY worked) and dryer and installed another one and had some problems with the cord not reaching the outlet in the new setup! It stinks having to make do until things return to normal. Your problem with your wash at this point, is that there is NO AGITATION going on. You're doing the soaking, you're doing the detergent and using the hot water. What you need to do is like we did back when dinosaurs ruled the earth and beat them on a rock, or a washboard to get the AGITATION of the machine and the cleaning ACTION! You can try to swish them around in the tub or sink a bit, but unless you can really give them some serious turnings, you will note less than satisfactory results. I would encourage you if you must go longer than a week or two in this state, to check out a few local laundromats, you might be surprised to find out they are better maintained than you thought. The ones in my area are VERY well maintained, except one, which I wouldn't take my dog to, but the others are quite nice and one in particular, is clean, neat, has large front loaders and soft drink and snack machines, as well as a nice tv and some cable. Its worth a few bucks to use in a pinch! Lucky for me, the laundry room is back up and running, and I hope your is soon, too! Good luck!I need some tips on hand washing clothes?
    Don't worry that much.

The first things you can always do is much sure the sink, tub or bucket is clean with some bleach before using it.

The 2nd thing is if you must have to go to laundry mat you can also take a disinfect and spray cleaner and wipe them before using them the owners wont care.

    --------------------------------------

For white clothes you can add some bleach to water

For color clothes you can add color safe bleach 2
I get a bucket and wash them in that, dry on a clothes rack and avoid wringing them, (that causes wrinkles)
One thing to think about is that most of us don't do heavy or dirty work so our clothes usually don't need heavy duty cleaners or hot water to clean. (This of course does not involve diapers or greasy work clothes ) Having said that what makes your clothes clean is the agitation of the machine. You heard of women beating clothes against rocks in the river? They didn't have any soap. It was the motion of

beating that got the clothes clean. If you are really intent on

cleaning you have to move those clothes around in the tub.

Rub them together and swish them in the water etc and you have to do it for five or ten minutes to get them really clean. I think you will find after awhile the laundramat looks more attractive. The one I used to go to was wonderful. Clean and well run and the owners were very friendly. If you are nervous check it out one day before you take your clothes in. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I need help ASAP? Its about washing clothes twice?

Im always wanting to wash my clothes twice because i feel that 1 wash wont clean the clothes properly. A few days ago my mum got the water bill and it was alot. She told me that i cant wash my clothes twice anymore, and then we had a bigg fight. What should i do? The reason i have been washing my clothes twice is because i did sumthing wich requires ghusl. It wasnt zinaa. Its supposedly not a very bigg sin, actually minor, but its still a sin wich requires ghusl. And since i still havnt performd ghusl, and have been wearing all my clothes, i have decided to wash ALL of them. My mum dusnt know about me washing ALL of my clothes, only about me wanting to wash them twice. So i dno wat to do. I wana wash ALL my clothes, but i also wana wash them ALL twice. This is because i will only feel that they will b ok for me to wear after washing them twice. I dno any other Muslims that wash their clothes twice. Do you? Maybe i should ask Allah(swt) wat to do? Plz help me ASAP!I need help ASAP? Its about washing clothes twice?
It seems for me that u r always looking for the perfection in ur life and always precise in performing ur tasks :)

And btw it's also the same reason in my opinion that may makes u taking long time to finish ur tasks :) ';from ur previous Q';.

Like for example, if there's a certain task needed to be done by u and another person, it may take 30 mins from that person, while it may take longer from u, because be4 u start doing this task, u may start thinking first and organize ur steps and picture how would u like that task to be finished.. And since u care about every single detail, ur task would be longer than what it should be and would take more time n efforts, so that would make u get lazy on doing it on time n will lead to delaying ur tasks :)

According to washing ur clothes twice, it is not right thing to get used to :)

Unfortunately, I do that too, I wash the stuff in the washer for twice and three times too sometimes. And also washing my hands three times all the time..

I do believe that once is enough already but I guess I'm always looking for more!

I remember a story I heard b4 about that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) saw a man doing his wudo'o and repeating it 3 times, so he asked him why he was doing that, and the man told him that he feels like he was missing something, and the prophet (pbuh) told him that he shouldn't do that and that he should always trust the 1st wudoo he made, because it's the devil who is making him suspecting about the accuracy of his works.

Try not to make it a habit that u double wash ur clothes, and it will be easier with the time ensha2allah :)I need help ASAP? Its about washing clothes twice?
na don't become obsessive, wash ur clothes once!! but then if u can actually see dirt or smell andythin then wash it again, otherwise don't wash it twice, and Allah dislikes wastful people, so if ur using up so much water in order to wash ur clothes twice ur not doing good in the eyes of Allah because u r wasting so much water!!!
Use a washing machine, or go to the Laudromat. That way you can put them all in the laundry and pay for it yourself, without your mom having to foot a huge water bill.

And please try to stay in a state of purity and Wudhu all the time. This helps us all to refrain from sin.
Washing them once would be enough to make them clean for a Muslim.Don't let the satan involve you in a task thats not important. You'll need willpower and nobody except Allah can help you with that.Just shrug that voice that keeps telling you your clothes are not clean.

    May Allah help you.

    I'll be praying for you.

    Salaam.
Dont you have a proper washing machine?

I never feel the need to wash my clothes twice because I have a proper washing machine. And a proper dryer.
It sounds like those who have to wash their hands 3 times or something

    it can get obsessive

cleaning it once is OK .. it will be clean .. add some disinfectant to the clothes before washing them if you wan them to be soo clean
pls don't mind u have some sort of phobia of cleanliness. pls consult a psychiatrist as soon as possible. pls i am again telling u don't mind but u have medical problem.
you are making your life VERY MISERABLE,.i suggest you MUST Read/Ponder/Understand Glorious Quran to find all the answers ,but you rely more on Y/A,than Quran.the choice is yours.
oh my! u are exaggerating too much! just was the clothes once and remove all ur doubts! they will be clean when u wash them. no need to wash them twice! dont be so doubtful!

and wasting water is a sin too!

why do u need the stars....???
Unless they were heavily stained, washing them once would be enough. Your behaviour sounds a bit OCD.
Born NAKED, Die NAKED use your Logic n sense.....?
It is a sin to waste water...wash once-- it is enuf

we are all answerable for our deeds to Allah

    Fear Allah
I would say also like the other people said..

Add some disinfectant to the wash..

Also you could add a cup of white vinegar to your wash.. this really is bio good (green) and helps boost the detergent.. I now buy a huge econo jug and use it in both my laundry and dishwasher.. it gets them sparkling clean and you dont smell the vinegar afterwards..

but if you dont care, there are tons of laundry boosters out there that help and are not expensive..

edit:.. another alternative is get a job and help pay the water bill...
first of all....if u lie to your mom or anyone else in ur family, stop now.....

according to a hadith...if you wanna get away from sins and evil actions, you first need to quit lying....because when u commit a sin...u need to lie in order to hide it....so once u decide not to lie anymore WHAT SO EVER...u;ll end up quitting all your wrong doings...

second, u have no right to get mad over your mom when all of this crap began due to the sin u commited (whatever sin u r talkin about...)......all you gotta do is stay sincere to islam...stay sincere to Allah...n u wont have one single fight with your mom, family, or anyone around u...

for now ...i'd suggest that u wash them once...no need to wash them twice....u r wasting water n gettin ur mom to be upset with u

    Thats my advice
salaam i think you are making a problem for yourself,if clothes are washed properly once, and rinsed 7 times, and by this i dont mean using 7 times more water to do it, the way we do it here is to wring the clothes 7 times under clean running water before spinning.Islam does not require washing clothes twice (unless they are obviously soiled), dont make work and expense for yourself....hope this helps
Just realize when you wash clothes in a washing machine....it doesn't kill any bacteria or anything like that......it simply washing it off your clothes and the water goes out the drain.

Figure if you are sick, throwing your clothes in the washing machine makes them clean enough someone else can't get sick from your clothes....... 1 wash is good enough to take care of the other stuff.

I'm 29 weeks pregnant. How early should I start washing baby clothing and blankets?

I know that seems like a strange question, but I'm starting to get that urge to wash everything, but I don't want to do it too soon. Any good suggestions on when to launder everything?I'm 29 weeks pregnant. How early should I start washing baby clothing and blankets?
im also 29 weeks and have pretty much all the clothes ill need for a good while.. anywho i washed and put them away also did the blankets i have.. had the urge one day so i did it.. as i get more and its enough for a load of laundry or 2 i wash them and put them away also.. i mainly did it so i could get it organized so i knew what i had and didnt have and whatt all i needed come to find out i need socks and thats about it! haha

congrats! i bet ur just as excited as i am.. terrified to give birth but.. i suppose its a little late to turn back on that one haha..

p.s i am having a little boy and his name is Chandler...

EDITT:: just saw the person aboves answer and i have my clothes in a rubbermaid storage dresser thing... its smallish i guess.. also have the dryer sheets in with it and it does help keep it fresh who knows maybe ill wash it all again when the time gets closer hahaI'm 29 weeks pregnant. How early should I start washing baby clothing and blankets?
I'm 38w3d and okay, maybe I've left it a bit late, we started the blankets, towels and hospital outfits two weeks ago, today I'm going to do the rest - or I might push my luck and wait a bit longer... I'm trying to leave it as late as possible as the days are excruciatingly long and drawn out at the moment - once that's done there's just NOTHING left to do!

If you do any now, you'll probably have to do it again later but you'll have security of knowing it's done just in case bub comes early.
My advice is to wash it with an unscented, hypo-allergenic laundry detergent to avoid rashes on your baby's skin. You can wash it as soon as you want, but the problem will be keeping it fresh smelling. You should buy some rubbermaid tubs to fold and store everything you wash so it will retain it's freshness. You could put a couple dryer sheets between layers of blankets or clothes to help keep the scent pleasant.
I've been having to biggest urge to do this also (28 weeks pregnant)! I'm trying to make myself wait until after Christmas, atleast, and hopefully until after my baby shower (3 weeks later), just so that I can get everything washed and done at once.

I'm planning on using a detergent that is dye and fragrance free, since I have sensitive skin and use it anyways.

If you want to wash them now, go ahead, then put them into plastic tubs to keep them clean and dust free.
I would wait until ur about 34-36 weeks and of course I know you're going to use Dreft. You should also use that on your clothes too since you will be holding the baby alot and he/she will be touching your clothes. Good luck and congrats.
I would wait a few more weeks definately I would say around 35 weeks (in case u have the baby early)

U don't wanna wash it too early because you will just have to rewash everything again.

    Good luck with everything
depends what season you are in if the weather is going to be fine leave it a bit longer but if the weather is not so great do it soon so you know everything will be done on time
Do it now while you feel like it. I'm 36 weeks and I started washing everything two days ago. I'm only about half way through it because to be honest, I'm too lazy.

Do you dry your clothes on the washing line outside?

it is more environmentally friendlyDo you dry your clothes on the washing line outside?
    Absolutely!

I live in the cold wet pacific northwest too. I gave up my tumble dryer over a year ago. In the warmer months I use the clothesline outside. I wash all my colored clothing inside out and hang on the line this way to keep them from fading. I wash all my whites right side out and hang up right side out so the sun will help bleach them and keep them bright.

In the winter/rainy season (which is 6 months of the year) I have 2 long pipes suspended from the ceiling in my garage by giant hooks. I use these to hang clothes on with coat hangers. I supplement this with a wooden drying rack for towels, sheets, socks, underwear, etc.

Even in the winter when it is wet and humid here, most of my clothes dry within 24 hours in my unheated garage.

I have bad allergies, so in the spring when the pine trees have a lot of pollen and leave a yellow coating on everything, I just hang indoors until the threat has gone. I have found that by hanging my clothes they last longer and it is actually easier. I can hang everything up and forget about them for a few days until I am ready to put them away. Unlike the tumble dryer, which I have to rush to pull them from the dryer so they don't get all wrinkled.

There is nothing better than line dried clothing and no commercial product can copy that fresh scent. They all try, but they fail.

If I can hang my clothing year round, in such a wet climate, everyone else can too. I guess it just depends on your level of commitment.

I save a lot of money and I am not putting so much carbon into the environment by doing this. I doubt if I will be purchasing another tumble dryer again. This system works very well at my house for us.

Do you dry your clothes on the washing line outside?
i actually dry all of my t-shirts and pants inside of the house on a laundry line in the house(it rains a lot where i live and i'm severely allergic to pollen) So i actually dry 1/2 of my clothes inside, but the rest like hand towels, sheets and blankets in the dryer so that the dryer will kill all of the germs the detergent didn't.
It isn't just more environmentally-friendly; it is more bill friendly.

I have a tumble dryer, but rarely ever use it.

I aim to do my washing on any day when the sun shines and anything not dry enough to put away when the sun goes down, is put in the bathroom on an airer and over-the-bath retractable clothes line.
Yes but I never used to in my previous house because the line was too near to the fence and I hated the thought of insects and cobwebs getting onto my washing.

A posh girl in my office overheard me talking about it and asked how I dried my washing so instead of telling her I used a tumble dryer I told her I dusted the fence. She believed me too!
Yes, although not much chance to this summer, have had more washing on the line in October than August!!

I am a working mum too, hasn't stopped me so far.

(I think someone is sulking because they got a thumbs down and has been going down giving one to everyone else, poor didums!) LOL!
Weather permitting I do. I finish towels etc. on a cold tumble to soften. Had to get them in this afternoon as we got a shower in Berkshire (like the contributor from Surrey - well it is only down the road).
Yes but once i left my coat on the line and when i brought it in it smelt of Tomcats so i had to wash it again.
Yes. It makes the clothes smell fresher and costs less (just need a line and some pegs if you don't have any already) as well being environmentally friendly.
Sure do - it saves on ironing too. Just had to leg-it outside though as an unforecast shower descended on (otherwise) sunny Surrey!
Yes I love to smell the fresh air on my washing.

In damp weather I dry them on a rack and then finish off in the dryer machine.
We do whenever we can as everything seems fresher that way.

Unless it's too wet or too cold.No wet or frozen clothes here!

You just want to know if my boxers are outside so you can steal them ;-)
Yes - environmentally friendly does NOT come in to it. Tumble Driers are to expensive.
I do when I can but not everyone is lucky enough to have outside space to do this.
I dry mine inside, on an indoor line, how is that not environmentally friendly?
Yes I do, %26amp; they feel %26amp; smell, much nicer.
Yes, but I've just had to bring it in cause the rain is on again.
yes i do and the clothes smell much fresher

  • What washes clothes better, front loader washers or the newer top loaders?

I thought the top loaders were ';standard'; and the front loaders were the new style? Shows how much I know. I prefer my whirlpool (standard top loader) that's about 2 yrs old. It's the biggest tub I could find. I like to wash my quilts and it does the trick. Go to epinions.com for reviews. Also some sites have customer reviews on them. That helps to make a decision. What washes clothes better, front loader washers or the newer top loaders?
If this is a sexual metaphor then I would say the front loader. The top loader is ok but sometimes they bite. What washes clothes better, front loader washers or the newer top loaders?
Front loaders have ALWAYS washed better

How can I wash my clothes and not make them shrink?

I have tried different variations. I have washed my clothes in cold water, air dry, still shrink. I have washed them in cold water and put in dryer, shrink. I have even hand washed them in the bathtub with cold water, still shrink. I could buy a bigger size, but i bought a whole bunch of new shirts that are just the right size and i dont want them to shrink. I was wondering if there is a powder to put on them to clean them, or just throw them in the dryer with something for a short period of time with some kind of cleaning agent. any advice would help and thanks a lotHow can I wash my clothes and not make them shrink?
Try hand washing them in warm water, and hang to dry! Usually the dryer is what makes them shrink. Good LuckHow can I wash my clothes and not make them shrink?
    Woolite
Wash in cold water and line dry.

    Otherwise it's almost impossible.
maybee try one of the at home dry cleaning kits ,they work pretty well as long as the garment is not to badly soiled
Hand wash them in cold water and then air dry them! It works for me if I have things that cant get any shorter

Where do I wash my clothes when I go to college?

I don't want to use dirty washers, you know college people are dirty. So what is an alternative place to wash my clothing, if i live far from home? Do dry cleaning places do laundry? How much would they charge to wash clothing? Any suggestions?Where do I wash my clothes when I go to college?
Some laundromats have ';drop off service'; where you drop off your clothes to be washed, they charge by the poundage and then you pick them up at the end of the day, all folded and clean. BUT, I would guess that doesn't come cheap.

You can wash them yourself at the laundromat.

And, who says college people are dirty so you can't even think of using washers that they use. The word ';washer'; is the key word here. It washes things. So, at the end of a wash load, the machine should be as clean as you'd find it anywhere else. Also, I'm sure that dorm maintenance cleans them as part of routine maintenance, just as they clean other areas of the dorms, like the bathrooms, showers (if you have them in common areas and they are shared)etc.Where do I wash my clothes when I go to college?
Yes a dry cleaners could do it, but it would cost you and they change for the clothes as well as the time they have them. So if you get the chance to check around you might find a laundry area that charges per quarter and the like. Try to find one near a housing area as that will be the cleanest one. Good Luck.
Go to a Laundromat It cost about 1.50 to wash and .25 for every 7 min to dry.
