How to wash clothes by hand?

-- I put detergent and filled the bathroom sink with water and placed shirt there BUT the water turned RED. The shirt is BLUE and the detergent is a CLEAR color, neither are RED. Why did it turn RED? What does this mean? Does this mean the shirt's color will change? How to wash clothes by hand?
Apparently the color is bleeding and red is one of the colors that are combined to come up with the color blue. You need to find a detergent that will set the colors in the dye and not wash the shirt with anything else of course. How to wash clothes by hand?
When washing by hand wash in family of colors

Some clothes especially whites should be allowed to res tin the water for a while first without soap and then again with soap.

Washing by hand was in small amounts

Put detergent in the water first and stir then add clothes best wet clothes at that time
It is alright, wash a corner of it and see what color it turns. Always do a patch test and read the label on the clothes. It could just be a chemical recation, try some bleach alternative.
